ABOUT THE
Order of the Amaranth

What is the Order of the Amaranth?

Founded in 1873, the Order of the Amaranth, is a fraternal, social and charitable organization whose membership is comprised of women and men affiliated with Masonry. Although a belief in the existence of a Supreme Being is foremost to being a member, we welcome many faiths represented within our membership. Our Ritual is an integral part of our Order and emphasizes the values of everyday life, founded on the sublime teachings of Truth, Faith, Wisdom and Charity. It is by these teachings we strive to be better individuals.

Our major philanthropic endeavor is the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation. This Foundation makes yearly donations from funds raised by the local jurisdictions to the American Diabetes Association, in the form of grants to researchers. We are proud that 100% of the funds raised are provided for use by the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation as the Board of Directors is elected from our membership and no administrative expenses are incurred. Through these donations, we hope our efforts will ultimately help in finding a cure for Diabetes.

What is different about Connecticut Amaranth?

While traditions are different in each state, Connecticut has a few events every year to help us towards our goal of curing Diabetes. We have a Diabetes Ball every March with a dinner, raffle and entertainment to raise money for Diabetes Research.

In Connecticut we are also lucky to be within traveling distance to other jurisdictions in Amaranth and every October we have an annual "pilgrimage" to Pennsylvania to visit with Dorothy Lim Memorial Court and socialize with the members.  We have had multi-jurisdictional picnics with fellow members from Massachusetts, Maine, New York and New Jersey as well. It is always a fun time socializing with people from all over the country.
